Introduction to siltstone

The sedimentary rock composed mainly of silt debris is siltstone [1]. The content of silt with a particle size of 0.0625-0.0039 mm (mm) accounts for 50% of a clastic sedimentary rock of siltstone specimens. The clastic composition of siltstone is generally simple, mainly quartz, feldspar and cuttings are rare, and sometimes contain more muscovite. Other than silt, it consists of sand, clay or chemical deposits. According to the particle size, it is divided into coarse siltstone (0.0625~0.0312mm) and fine siltstone (0.0312~0.0039mm).

Silica sandstone often has a thin horizontal bedding, and the sediment is easily liquefied to produce deformation bedding and other sliding structures when water is contained. Siltstone is divided into coarse siltstone (0.0625~0.0312mm) and fine siltstone (0.0312~0.0039mm) according to particle size; it is divided into argillaceous siltstone, iron siltstone and calcareous siltstone according to the composition of the mixed material.
