Successful application of oil-based drill cuttings while drilling technology

Recently, the oil-based drill cuttings processing technology developed by Shengli Oilfield Drilling Institute was successfully applied.

On April 11, 2011, the successful completion of the Fan 154-Ping 1 well opened the prelude to the unconventional exploration and development of the Shengli Oilfield, but oil-based drilling fluid technology was commonly used in the exploration and development of shale oil and gas and other unconventional oil reservoirs. The large amount of oily discarded drill cuttings produced during the drilling process is very serious to the environment. In order to solve the oil-based drill cuttings pollution and emissions problems and eliminate environmental pollution to ensure that the drilling “blood” is pure, researchers from Shengli Oilfield Drilling Institute began research and development of oil-based drill cuttings processing equipment.

After a series of failed baptisms, they formulated oil-based drill cuttings while drilling process, developed special treatment agents, developed processing equipment while drilling, formed a set of shale oil and gas drilling oil-based drilling cuttings processing technology, oil-based drilling Chip and drilling processing equipment was born. The oil-based drill cuttings follow-up drilling process realizes the step-by-step implementation of recovery and cleaning of oil-based drilling fluids, so that the recovery rate of oil-based drilling fluids in drill cuttings on the bottom of wells is greater than 90%, cost savings, cleanliness and environmental protection, and cleaning using biotechnology. Agent dry powder, strong cleaning ability, environmental protection, no odor, the oil content of drill cuttings after cleaning treatment reaches the requirements of direct environmental protection; the equipment adopts a variety of new types of equipment system integration, with stirring, mixing, crushing, cleaning, dehydration and drying functions. The processing capacity reaches 5 cubic meters per hour, which meets the drilling-drill processing requirements for drilling oil-based drill cuttings.

The oil-based drill cuttings from the laboratory went through the on-site application inspection. From May 3rd to May 12th, 2012, oil-based drilling-drilling rigs were used to drill the 3,534m deep well and 3,645m in the Well 2HF in Shengli Oilfield. Drilling fluid recovery and drill cuttings are processed while drilling. After processing, the oil content of drill cuttings is greatly reduced, and its oil content is only 0.43% to 0.86%, which is in line with the requirements of 1% of the first-class environmental emission standards stipulated in GB 4914-2008 Offshore Oil Exploration and Development Pollutant Emission Concentration Limits. The direct on-site environmental protection requirements have been achieved. All cuttings conveying equipment is discharged into the on-site mud pool, and the purified oil-based drilling fluid is recycled into the solid-control circulating system and can continue to be used. Up to now, the oil-based drill cuttings processing unit has been successfully applied to 3 wells such as the Fenghua 2HF well, the Leung Page 1HF well, and the Yi 173-5HF well in Shengli Oilfield, and the application effect is good.
