Welding rod selection principle

When selecting the electrode in actual production, in addition to the chemical composition, mechanical properties, working environment and other requirements of the steel, consideration should be given to the comprehensive factors such as structural conditions, stress conditions and equipment conditions.
Selection skills

â—† Select the mechanical properties and chemical composition of the weldment
1 Low carbon steel, medium carbon steel, low alloy - should be selected according to the principle of "equal strength". When the structure is rigid and the force is complicated, the electrode should be selected one level lower than the previous strength.

2 Stainless steel, heat-resistant welding or surfacing - selected according to the chemical composition of the base metal.

3 When welding dissimilar steel, it is generally used to match the welding rod with lower strength grade.

â—† Selection of acid electrode and alkaline electrode

Mainly depends on: the complexity of the shape of the structure, the size of the thickness, the condition of the weldment and the crack resistance of the steel and the difficulty of obtaining a DC power supply.

Basic welding rods are suitable for:

1 requires high plasticity, impact toughness and crack resistance.

2 Welds working under low temperature conditions

Acidic electrodes are suitable for:

1 Welded parts that are difficult to clean.

2 When the ventilation conditions are poor or when welding inside the container.

Consider the working conditions and performance of the weldment

1 For weldments with specific requirements for the working environment, the corresponding welding rods, such as low-temperature steel electrodes and underwater welding rods, should be used.

2 Pearlitic heat-resistant steel generally uses electrodes similar to the chemical composition of steel, or according to the working temperature of the weldment.

â—† Consider simplifying processes, increasing productivity, and reducing costs.

1 "E4313" should be used for thin plate welding or spot welding.

2 In the premise of meeting the use performance of the weldment and the operation performance of the welding rod, the electrode with high specification and high efficiency should be selected.

3 When the performance is basically the same, try to use a lower price electrode.
