Zimbabwe's Herald, 23, quoted a business investigation agency as saying that in 2014, the country's diamond production will reach 14.5 million carats, with a total value of $1.7 billion. The report analyzes that in the next few years, global new diamond production will come from Zimbabwe and Australia. In 2018, Zimbabwe will become the world's second largest diamond producer, accounting for 17% of global production. According to statistics, last year, Zimbabwe’s diamond production was about 11 million carats, accounting for 9% of global rough diamond production. In recent years, with the mining of areas such as Maranchi, Zimbabwe’s huge reserves of diamond resources have attracted worldwide attention. Between 2008 and 2011, the country’s diamond production increased by a factor of 10.
