The third-generation nuclear power CAP1400 technology is a major scientific and technological achievement that China has introduced and digested the third-generation nuclear power AP1000 technology in the United States, applied the passive design concept, and successfully achieved new innovation through major special scientific research. Up to now, this major science and technology project has formed a total of 2,894 intellectual property rights, which has comprehensively improved China's nuclear power design, testing, safety review, collaborative innovation system, equipment manufacturing and other national capabilities. In the process of research and development, based on the national mechanism, to guide the full use and sharing of resources, and build a number of cooperation platforms for government, industry, research and research, and promote the cooperation of scientific research, technology integration, and innovation.

At present, the construction design of the CAP1400 demonstration project has been basically completed. Successfully broke through the nuclear power plant localization standard design, model design, test verification, nuclear power plant probability safety assessment (PSA), main equipment digestion and absorption, key equipment oversized forging development, containment manufacturing, nuclear island construction and installation and other key core technologies. It has realized the autonomy of China's three generations of nuclear power technology research and development, engineering design, equipment manufacturing, and test verification, and realized the autonomy of advanced software platforms and advanced nuclear fuels.
Relying on the national major science and technology projects, CAP1400 is also engaged in the localization of equipment while carrying out design autonomy. The localization rate of equipment has now reached 85%. Key equipment and materials such as reactor pressure vessel, steam generator, large forgings, main pipeline, steel containment, nuclear grade zirconium, steam generator, shielded motor main pump, blasting valve, safety injection box, core water supply tank, etc. More than two domestic manufacturers have participated in the research and production. It can not only control engineering risks, but also promote benign market competition, and comprehensively improve the manufacturing level of China's nuclear power industry.
Since 2013, the National Nuclear Safety Administration has organized nearly 200 domestic authoritative experts to conduct a joint review of the safety of CAP1400. Through a comprehensive review of more than 5,000 questions on six major topics in 17 months, it is concluded that the CAP1400 is â€œfrom the actual design. Aiming at the possibility of eliminating the release of large-scale radioactive materials, through a series of calculation analysis and test verification, a large number of safety improvement design improvements have been made to meet the latest international and domestic safety standards, and to meet China's "13th Five-Year" nuclear power safety objectives. .
